What2Watch: This week’s worth-the-watch

Here is Review’s rundown of what to stream on Showmax and Netflix this week.

POLOKWANE – Streaming services such as Showmax and Netflix have made it possible to watch your favourite series or movies on demand, whenever you want to.

This however makes it even more difficult to decide between the magnitude of options available – that’s where we come in.

Review has put together a list of shows you should stream on your favourite platform.

What to Watch this week on:

Showmax:

Series: 100 Foot Wave

Winner of the 2022 Emmy for Outstanding Cinematography, 100 Foot Wave follows the decade-long odyssey of big-wave surfing pioneer Garrett McNamara who, after visiting a small fishing village in Portugal, helped push the sport beyond the realm of imagination.

The six-part HBO documentary series was also up for Outstanding Documentary or Non-Fiction Series and has a 100% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes. LA Weekly calls the series “a wild ride… both maddening and captivating to watch.”

Movie: Venom: Let There Be Carnage

The seventh-biggest box office hit of 2021, Venom: Let There Be Carnage sees Eddie Brock trying to reignite his career by interviewing serial killer Cletus Kasady. Eddie and his extra-terrestrial passenger have their claws full when another symbiote, Carnage, makes itself at home in Cletus.

“A sequel aimed squarely at fans of the original’s odd couple chemistry, Venom: Let There Be Carnage eagerly embraces the franchise’s sillier side,” says Rotten Tomatoes’ critics’ consensus.

For the kids: Moominvalley

Moominvalley, the 2019 adaptation of Tove Jansson’s beloved tales of the Moomin family, won a 2020 British Animation Award for Best Children’s Series, and was nominated for awards at the 2020 International Emmy Kids Awards and the 2021 Annecy International Animated Film Festival, among others.

Netflix:

Series: Unsolved Mysteries

Real cases of perplexing disappearances, shocking murders and paranormal encounters fuel this gripping revival of the iconic documentary series.

Movie: The Good Nurse

An overburdened ICU nurse leans on her selfless new colleague at work and at home — until a patient’s unexpected death casts him in a suspicious light.

For the kids: Daniel Spellbound

In New York City, a teenage tracker makes his living selling hard-to-find mystical items to sorcerers — but dealing in magic can be risky business.
