Members of the Rotary Club of Pietersburg 100 had a most entertaining meeting at the Polokwane Bowls Club last Thursday evening when the formal agenda took second place to entertainment by members of a local ‘boereorkes’, known as the Bosvellers.
Leader of the Bosvellers, Attie Vermaak introduced his band members, Chris Gouws and Juan du Bruyn and provided a brief introduction to the instruments that are used. The Rotarians were particularly interested in the techniques employed to produce the sound effects that are common to a ‘boereorkes’.
The Rotarians also took the opportunity to spin some balls on the bowling green before all sat down to a meal of freshly made hamburgers and chips, rounded off which a special liquid desert prepared by the Anns, who were special guests to the meeting. It is a tradition that the Anns socialise with the Rotarians if there is a fifth Thursday in a month.
