The South African Radio Driver’s Association Polokwane hosted the South African National Bushveld Model Racing Championships at the radio control cars race track in the city over the weekend and more than 80 drivers from the Northern provinces tested their skills in 11 qualifying races on Friday and Saturday, with the finals on Sunday.
Contestants from Bushveld Model Racing, RC Superbowl, Ultra Raceway, Tshwane Raceway Promotions and Vikings Raceway took part in this fun-filled event.
Club Chairperson Kobus Kotzé explained that the cars are all electrically operated and are capable of reaching speeds as high as 700 km/hour at scale.
Kotzé invites model racing car enthusiasts to join the club. “Membership is open for all ages and our youngest member is eight years old. The sport is very affordable and entry-level cars cost around R3 500,” Kotzé says and adds that club events are hosted every first weekend of the month. Kotzé may be contacted on 071 355 8908.
