Pol Muni wraps up Women’s Month

Polokwane municipal women councillors and employees picketed outside the civic centre in the city last Thursday to show their support for the campaign opposing violence against women and children. After they were joined by Executive Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng, they marched to Jack Botes Hall where women issues were discussed.
Polokwane Chief Whip, Mamedupi Teffo, opened the proceedings and said that when a woman rises, she should take another woman with her and urged women to capacitate and empower others.
Nkadimeng encouraged municipal women to upgrade their education so that they can qualify to be appointed in senior positions. She further urged women to approach her when they encounter challenges such as the absence of clean ablution facilities within their work environment. “My office is always open for every women because I know the struggles that women goes through. I am pleased by the number of women that are members of the Mayoral Committee in Polokwane Municipality. It is a sign that gender empowerment is being taken seriously,” Nkadimeng said.
Nkadimeng urged women to respect and support each other at all times in order for them to be progressive. She applauded all the women who are single parents and are managing their households with pride. “Women must stand up and unite against women abuse by making their voices heard, but to walk with dignity as they are the most precious gifts to the world,” the Executive Mayor said. In closing, Nkadimeng urged all municipal women to wear all black with red lipsticks and stylish headgear on Thursdays as a way of saying no to women abuse.
