Polokwane Municipality’s Mayoral Golf Day that was hosted at Polokwane Golf Club on Friday, saw 130 golfers enjoying 18 holes of fun.
Executive Mayor, Thembi Nkadimeng teed off shortly after 07:00 and was supported by MEC for Social Development, Mapula Mokaba-Phukwana and three teams from the municipality.
The winner in the ladies’ category was Khomotso Mdhuli with 44 points, while Obed Mashego took the honours in the men’s A category with 41 points. Joe Legora with 45 points and Peter Makgatho with 49 points were the winners in the mens B and C categories.
Mdhuli also scored the longest drive for ladies on the second hole, while Mpho Makhado had the longest drive in the men’s category on the seventh hole. Willy Moshoemu was the nearest to the pin on the 11th and Shaun Mouton the nearest on the 16th.
Nkadimeng thanked the sponsors as well as the players and said that the Mayoral Golf Day is the municipality’s flagship fund raising event and that the funds raised will go towards the Executive Mayor’s Bursary Fund and selected NGOs.
The amount raised was not yet calculated at time of going to print, but it was estimated to be around R1 million.
