Rotary’s Oktoberfest 2018 hits 400 target

The Rotary Club of Pietersburg 100’s annual Oktoberfest that was hosted at Bolivia Estate on Saturday evening, brought together old friends for an evening of great fun and entertainment in real German style.
The Velvet Sounds Oompah Band from Pretoria provided traditional German music and songs, and it did not take long before guests took to the dance floor. Guests filled up their beer mugs and toasts to the tune of ‘Ein prosit der gemütlichkeit’ were proposed at regular intervals to ensure that the spirit remained at a high level. ‘In München steht ein hofbräuhaus’ and ‘Heidi’ were some of the popular favourites on the programme and contributed to the ambience that was created by colourful German flags.
The highlight of the event was a special German meal with a huge Eisbein for each guest and Bockwurst, Kartoffelensalat and Sauerkraut, rounded off with apple crumble and custard as dessert.
Following the tradition of the last 39 years, Rotarian Klaus Rabiega provided entertainment with his version of ‘The Chicken Song’. “Next year will be my 40th year of involvement in the Oktoberfest and it has always been a pleasure to do this stunt,” Rabiega said.
Co-organiser of the event, Horst Meyer said that the Oktoberfest was well supported. “The community of Polokwane’s support is highly esteemed and the funds raised enables us to make generous donations to a number of charities,” Meyer said and added that it did not take long to reach the target of 400 tickets being sold.
