Motorbike fanatics in the city were at the edge of their seats when bikers competed in different classes during the second round of Superbike Magazine Short Circuit Series at the Polokwane Go-Cart track on Saturday.
Over 100 male and female bikers battled it out on the track but the best highlight of the day were the South African Motocycle Racing Academy (Samra) ladies Honda 250 Cup and Samra NSF 100 which was for young bikers from the ages of 7 to 14.
One of the tournament organisers, Neil Harran indicated that the Samra or Loctite NSF 100 bring young riders together and also afford those who never competed in a challenge an opportunity to do so. He said the bikes in this class were the same to give all participants a fair advantage, adding that the academy trains children from impoverished families to become bikers.
He went on to indicate that the academy was a junior development partner of Motorbike South Africa and they host at least 14 competitions a year.
“We also host several bootcamps yearly for young riders to be trained and coached by professional coaches. We sometimes cater for 55 children in one camp and the upcoming camp is scheduled for 29 June at the Polokwane Go-Cart track,” Harran explained.
Participants locked horns in categories such as clubmen SS300 plus masters, edi mini moto novice and stock, masters and grandmasters, supermoto juniors, Samra ladies Honda 250 cup and loctite NSF 100, supermoto 2, mini moto prod and super prod and open, supermoto 1 and 1X, and 150 cup. The third round of Superbike Magazine Short Circuit Series is scheduled for 6 April at Laserfiche Raceway in Vereeniging. Parents who are interested to enrol their children at the academy can contact Harran on 082 560 3684 or email him at neilharran@racingacademy.co.za. Results for the two Samra classes are as follows:
