Capricorn High School’s (CHS) hall was packed to capacity with learners and parents during the school’s governing body prize giving in Polokwane on Friday morning.
Learners were awarded and acknowledged for their academic, sport and cultural achievements. Handing out the awards and congratulating each learner, was Ms Raesetja Maja, former member of CHS’s School Governing Body.
The top academic learner of the year, who was awarded the Hutton Memorial Schield Dux Award, was Zanele Makhubo, who was also awarded a Scholarship Merit Certificate for academic honours. She was heartily congratulated by CHS Principal Mr Lucas Chuene.
Billy Chuene received several awards including the Valedictory Shield for the Grade 12 learner who was parade sergeant major in Grade 11. Billy was also awarded a Scholarship Merit Certificate for obtaining academic honours.
Other learners who received academic honours: Koketso Nong, Dimpho Matli, Nikhil Bejrajh and Nahean Mchjabeen.
Pro Eruditione Merit Certificates for learners who obtained academic full colours went to: Paballo Mohale, Legogang Shikai, Karabo Malekutu, Nthabiseng Tleane, Lebo Selemela, Xandin Pasquale, Nkadimeng Rampya, Lethabo Phasha and Rodah Tshiwilowilo.
The title of All Round Sportsman of the Year went to Nthulane Mukvevho. Moloko Choshi was named Sportswoman of the Year and received the Mathey Trophy and she also received the Tom Chauke Trophy for being Player with Most Flair.
Paul Carelse received the Leo Salomon Cup for unobtrusive service as well as Honours for Sound.
The Dior Intellect Trophy for Female Debater of the Year was shared between Disego Mogale and Mahlako Kgomoeswana.
Sizwe Maseko accepted the Gerty Ferreira Trophy as Best Chess Player of the Year and Mabotja Mashangoane received the NT Lephondo Trophy for being the Most Disciplined Player of the Year.
The ceremony ended with the school anthem being sung and parents and prize recipients were invited to enjoy refreshments afterwards.
