Local squash players received coaching from the country’s best when two of South Africa’s top players JP Brits and Christo Potgieter visited the Polokwane Squash Club (PSC) as part of their Masjiensquash Limpopo Roadshow last Wednesday.
Brits and Potgieter held a coaching session in which two local players could enter a court with either Brits or Potgieter for 20 minutes in which the coach showed them advanced techniques the players could use on a squash court after which they held an exhibition match against each other.
According to Johan Bouwer, PSC Social Committee Head, the club was very honoured to have hosted the two players: “The local players were very excited about the idea of being coached by South Africa’s top players as well as being able to see a live professional match being played.”
He also said that the club plans on making it an annual event.
Potgieter remarked that the club’s facilities were great and that he loved to visit Polokwane because people were friendly and made him feel at home.
Local squash player Zulfikar Fakir said that he found it very interesting and that he definitely learned something from the short coaching session.
The event was attended by approximately 70 local members of the community.
