Polokwane hosted the second round of the SupaDrift Series which provided the ultimate motortainment and produced a sensory overload spectacular at the Polokwane Short Circuit on Saturday.
Roaring engines, smoking tyres and the smell of ethanol filled the air while competitors’ sideways craze caused some wow responses with spectators.
According to Mikey Skelton of XS Promotions the 2018 SupaDrift Series is the hottest contested competition to date which saw two times national drift champion Jason Webb taking the win in the Pro class on Saturday. He was followed by Gavin Puren, second and Shane Gutzeit overall third.
In the Pro 1 class for beginners Trevor Puren, Tinashe Bundo and Melanie van der Merwe claimed the top three positions.
Skelton said angle, speed, line and style are the criteria according to which SupaDrift judges adjudicate individual drift runs and score accordingly. Drifters are then ceded and afterwards get the opportunity to battle against rival drifters in a tandem event. Competitors have to match the lead car and blueprint his run in close proximity to the maximum to gain top points. A ladder system and knock-out competition funnels top competitors to the final, according to Skelton.
