POLOKWANE – Provincial Government’s Women’s Month programme was launched last Tuesday at Leboeng village, Fetakgomo in the Greater Tubatse Municipality where the Premier, Stanley Mathabatha, acknowledged the crucial role women play in society. He launched the event, celebrated under the theme ‘The year of OR Tambo: Women Uniting Together in Moving South Africa Forward’.
This year marks the 61st anniversary of 1956 women’s anti-pass book march at the Union Building in Pretoria which Women’s Day commemorates.
“The Limpopo Provincial Government commemorates this day to reflect on the women’s courage and commitment.
“This day will also be used to reflect on the positive impacts we have made as a nation since 1956: women now have the freedom of movement and are also allowed to occupy management positions,” Phuti Seloba, Provincial Government Spokesperson, said.
Provincial Government, led by Mathabatha, was scheduled to commemorate Women’s Day yesterday (Wednesday) at Ga-Mushi at the Barcelona Sports Grounds.
On 25 August, starting at 08:30, a walk is set to take place from the Thulamela Municipality Community Hall to Thohoyandou Police Station in support of women and to speak out against violence towards women and children.
