Year of reflection for the ANC

eMBALENHLE – ANC Mpumulanga officially launched the 2016 Local Government Election (LGE) campaign on Saturday, 24 January at the eMbalenhle Stadium.

The event also marked the provincial version of the 8 January Statement and also the party’s 103rd anniversary

Mr David Mabuza, ANC provincial Chairperson, declared that 2015 is year of reflection for the party.

He said it is a year to look into election matters as well as the work of government and that community upliftment is among the important issues to be attended to this year.

“We have named and we have called this year the Year of the Freedom Charter.

“We also talk about unity in action to change these political gains into economic gains.

“It is quite clear that more and more of our people are in poverty, inequality is increasing in our faces, unemployment is rife, so economic freedom should be our struggle in this second phase of our transition.

“The official launch of the 2016 Local Government Elections (LGE) campaign has now taken place during these celebrations, it is time to begin paving the way forward towards the elections.

The ANC will be taking stock of all its activities and improve where there is a need.

ANC top brass attended the colourful event to kick start 2015 as per the party’s tradition.

Mr Gwente Mantashe, ANC national general secretary, urged the ANC members to stop fighting for position and to put more focus on bettering the lives of the people.

He also promised the party supporters that the ANC led government will make sure that companies like Sasol will benefit the communities where they are located to.

He also condemned the xenophobic attacks that are happening in Soweto and said people should not do wrong things in the name of poverty.
