Imvelo Perfoming Arts Group is making a difference.
Imvelo Performing Arts Group aims at recruiting pupils to keep them busy during the holidays.
KINROSS – The Imvelo Performing Arts Group plans to make a difference in the lives of pupils during the holidays by taking art to the streets.
Many young people in townships do not have much to do during the holidays, which may lead to wrong things such as substance abuse.
The Imvelo Performing Arts Groups have opened their doors for everybody who believes they have what it takes to be a performer.
This group was founded in 2012 by Messrs Sandile Manana and Vusi Ngwenya with the aim of eliminating teen pregnancy, drug abuse and socio-economics that affect the lives of the youth.
“We recruit the youth and teach them all kinds of dances, acting, poetry and music.
“We have seen positive results so far because some members were unruly and not disciplined when they joined the group, but now they are good boys and girls and even their school marks are proof of that,” said Mr Ngwenya.
Currently the group has 20 members and has hosted several events and performed at weddings, parties and gigs.
Mr Manana said: “We encourage the youth to join this group and parents to support them.”
