A 13-year-old boy was recently bitten by a dog in Standerton.
According to the boy’s mother, they were visiting her brother’s house and when they arrived a dog charged the car and they stayed in the vehicle.
Minutes later the dog disappeared to the back.
“The children opened the door and ran to the house and we got out the car as well,” the mother said.
The children went outside to play and moments later the boy came back crying and told his mom the dog bit him.
The boy was taken to the doctor.
They also contacted the owner of the dog who told them the dog has never received any rabies injection.
The owner also asked them not to involve the police, because he will pay for medical expenses.
He promised them that he will pay it the next day, but he did not.
“Now he is not taking my calls,” the mother said.
According to Lt Fanie Nhlabathi, communications officer of Standerton Police, they should have opened a case against the owner of the dog.
“Dogs should be kept in a confined space and owners should make sure gates are locked and also should put up a sign that tells people there is a dog in the yard,” Mr Nhlabathi said.
People are charged with indirect assault if their animals bite people.
