Izigi seeks new acting talent

Cathsseta selects eMbalenhle performing arts group for its education projects.

eMBALENHLE – Izigi Performing Arts group is searching for new talent for its upcoming edutainment projects with the Culture, Arts, Tourism, Hospitality, Sports Sector Education and Training Authority (Cathsseta).

It will hold auditions at the Sasol Club from 9am to 5pm on 5 February.

Mr Sindiso Nkosi, artistic director, said: “Our talent search is targeted at the ‘born frees’, the young adults born after the birth of our democracy who are 20 years plus this year.

“That said, we do not turn away talented people according to age, so all those who are interested are welcome.”

People must be fluent in English and in one of the following: IsiSwati, IsiNdebele, Sesotho, SePedi and IsiZulu.

“We work hand in hand with both the Department of Basic Education and Training and the Department Higher Education and Training, no full time students may apply.

“Interested candidates must be pro-active, hard workers and physically and artistically versatile.

“They must be able to memorise lines.

“These future leaders of our country must be patriotic and they must believe in the future of our cherished motherland and the rainbow nation of South Africa,” said Mr Nkosi.

Izigi finished on a high note at the University of the Free State in Mangaung in December where they performed 5 Artisans’ Awareness Industrial Theatres for Chathsseta in front of thousands of students from all provinces.

The group also had a successful year during its edutainment tour hosted by the Department of Higher Education and Training, It’s Cool to Be An Artisan, in the nine provinces.

“Sadly, the year was sweet and sour for our company.

“We tragically lost our hard working brother, Mr Hamilton Sibeko ka Sibiya, stage and logistics manager, in August.

“We dedicate most of our shows for this year to his artisan skills and selfless legacy.

“He was the wind beneath our wings,” Mr Nkosi said.

Izigi’s next performances will be held at the Ekurhuleni Further Education and Training College in Gauteng and Saldanah Bay Navy College in the Western Cape on 3 February.

Dr Blade Nzimande, Minister, and his deputy, Mr Mduduzi Manana, from the Department of Higher Education and Training, will be present.

“To all interested, please note that the show business sector is by nature a seasonal but resourceful vocation globally so these auditions are for this year’s projects only,” said Mr Nkosi.
