Garbage needs to be removed

GARBAGE NEEDS TO BE REMOVED:

It is normal to pass through a garbage heap in residential areas in Sakhile.
“In one street you pass through more than one dumping site sometimes,” Mr Joseph Vilakazi, resident, said.
Some residents have tried to stop people from dumping in open spaces by putting up signs telling people not to dump, but it does not help.
“I hate people dumping everywhere because it smells and gives a bad image of our community.
“The smell alone makes people sick,” another resident said.
Children entertain themselves on these garbage heaps and the community tried to get their ward councillors to do something.
“When you report things like these to the councillors, they tell us there is nothing they can do to stop people from dumping,” Ms Nonhlanhla Sibiya said.
The Lekwa Municipality tries in most cases to remove the refuse, but a couple of days later the area has garbage again.
“We also need to take responsibility and keep our garbage until the garbage truck arrives.
“I sometimes leave my garbage outside in the morning when I go to work and I find it there when I come back from work,” another resident said.
Mr Sipho Mkwanazi, spokesman of the Lekwa Municipality, said the municipality faces a challenge with the removal trucks.
The workers however, are now working shifts.
The municipality apologised for the inconvenience.
