Principal in the hot seat

According to Mr Daniel Mbuli, principal, the parents were not forced to pay the money.

Parents are dissatisfied with the Lindilanga School after they were asked to give money to help with maintenance.

According to the parents it is is a non-fee school and misuse of money is suspected.

According to the school’s budget, R20 000 was set aside for maintenance.

The parents were asked to make donations of any amount from R100.

They believe the school receives money from government to take care of maintenance.

“I do not understand why we have to take out money if the government is giving the school money to handle all the expenses,” a parent said.

The parents’ main concern is the state of the toilets.

“The toilets are in a bad state, the children sometime walk from school to my house to use a toilet,” another parent, who stays close to the school,  said.

According to another parent, her grandchild was sick not long ago, and when she took her to the doctor, the doctor said she has an infection caused by dirty water on the toilet’s floor.

“I did not understand what he meant because we clean the house and always tell them to wash their hands before they eat,” she said.

According to Mr Daniel Mbuli, principal, the parents were not forced to pay the money.

“We asked them to contribute the money as donations so we can fix the toilets as soon as possible.

“All the parents agreed to contribute at a meeting held to discuss these issues,” Mr Mbuli said.

According to him, they asked them to contribute because the money from the Department of Education will only be received in June.
