Free lessons benefit eMbalenhle pupils

Pupils thank iNkaba Yomphakathi for helping them to improve their performance.

eMBALENHLE – Members of iNkaba Yomphakathi are sacrificing their free time to help pupils from various secondary schools from Grade 9 to 11 to improve their performance.

They run English, mathematics, science, accounting, geography, life science, economics and mathematics literacy at Kiryatswana Secondary School from 9am to 1.30pm on Saturdays.

The non-profit organisation was founded by Messrs Necon Mthombeni (27), Lerato Shaun (34) and Percy Shabalala (25) a few months ago to encourage pupils to impove their results in various subjects.

“The purpose of this plan is to identify the problems that pupils are facing and also to come up with solutions,” said Mr Mthombeni.

Lessons are conducted by dedicated professionals who give of their time voluntarily.

Pupils wear their school uniforms when attending these classes.

Thato Thobejane, a Grade 11 pupil from Kiryatswana Secondary School, aims at passing her subjects which she failed last year with 90 per cent.

Nonhlanhla Maseko, a Grade 11 pupil from Kusasalethu Comprehensive School, said the classes have helped her to improve her mathematics marks.

Minenhle Mashilone, a Grade 11 pupil from Osizweni Secondary School, has seen her physical science marks improving since she began attending the classes a few weeks ago.

She also invited her friend, Precious Nkosi, a Grade 11 pupil from Sizwakele Secondary School, to attend the classes.

Sibongile Simelane, a Grade 11 pupil from Thomas Nhlabathi Secondary School, said her English grammar has improved.

Pupils are put in one classroom at the end of each session and are then motivated by a professional.

The organisation will begin its winter class programme from Monday to Friday between 8.30am to 1.30pm from 30 June to 11 July.
