Man stabbed 7 times

The car swerved off the road and came to a standstill, where the driver managed to run away.

Mr Tsepiso Tsotetsi (29) who was travelling from Balfour to Ext 6 in Standerton was hijacked and stabbed on Saturday 24 May at about 4pm.

Mr Tsotetsi gave two hitchhikers a lift from Greylingstad.

According to a witness, Mr Lourie Degenaar, one of the men, sitting at the back behind the driver, allegedly slashed Mr Tsotetsi’s throat and stabbed him seven times in the shoulder when they reached the stop-and-go about three kilometres outside Standerton on the Balfour Road.

Mr Degenaar said he was busy on his small holding when he heard a commotion at the entrance to his farm.

After the stabbing, the car collided with a sign post used at the stop-and-go on the R23.

The car swerved off the road and came to a standstill, where Mr Tsotetsi managed to run away and was helped by Mr Degenaar.

The attackers then drove away in the vehicle in the direction of town.

The vehicle was later recovered between Platrand and Perdekop, where the driver apparently lost control of the car again and ended up on the side of the road.

The two men left the vehicle at the scene and disappeared.

Mr Tsotetsi was stabilised in the Standerton Hospital and is recovering well from his injuries.

According to Lt Fanie Nhlabathi, spokesman of the Standerton Police, a case of hijacking has been opened, but no arrests have yet been made.
