SECUNDA – Hoërskool Oosterland Cricket Academy located at Hoërskool Oosterland specialises in one-on-one cricket training, group cricket training, cricket equipment and event management.
Messrs Matthew Sanger and Renier Carstens opened the academy and manage it and do the training.
“Coaching cricket is our passion and we want to create an environment where coaches and cricket players can build their cricketing foundations and enhance their talent and love for the game to ultimately reach their sporting dreams,” said Mr Sanger.
Their aim is to bring quality coaching to the school and the community and anyone who is interested and wants to improve their skills, is welcome to visit them.
Their vision is to develop opportunities for young cricket players to perform in the game of cricket and to collectively, with the partnering of schools and developing institutions, provide the opportunity for cricket to contribute to the development of life skills to all young players through hard work and rewards.
Mr Sanger was the head coach and centre director of the Daryll Cullinan Cricket Academy for eight years where they built the academy up from ground level.
He has been coaching cricket for 10 years and has a level 3 qualification.
He is also a qualified umpire and a grounds man and played in the Premier Cricket League for 11 years.
He made a turn in the United Kingdom as well where he played cricket for two years.
Mr Carstens played provincial first class cricket for the Easterns Cricket Union for three years.
He then became the chairman of the Gert Sibande Cricket Union and was instrumental in the development of the Mpumalanga Cricket Union.
He played for the South Easterns Country Districts Cricket Club for seven years of which he was the captain of the side for four years.
Once the Mpumalanga Cricket Union was created, he served as the director for provincial and club cricket. He was also the coach of the provincial men’s side for four years and played club cricket in the United Kingdom for two seasons.
