67 minutes well spent

DA planted seed for needy people on 18 July.

BETHAL – It is the first time that Nelson Mandela International Day will be celebrated without him.

The Democratic Alliance has joined hands with the Needy Forum Bethal and their 67 minutes in the ploughing of a field and fertilising the soil in the preparation of planting vegetables for the needy in the community.

It is the fifth year since the United Nations declared July 18, Madiba’s birthday, an international day and it is aimed at bringing people together to fight poverty and promote peace and reconciliation.

Some of the needy families and DA members planted some seeds.

After that everyone enjoyed a boerewors roll and coffee.

DA PR Councillor Ms Michelle Viljoen, who is the newest addition to the local DA Govan Mbeki team, was the organiser of the event and is also the founder of the Bethal Needy Forum.

Ms Ena van Rooyen (DA member) welcomed everyone and opened with a prayer.

Mr James Masango (DA Mpumalanga) addressed the people and thanked Mr Walter Arrow, owner of the field, for the donation of the field, Mr Walter Galloway for making his tractor available.

“I shall be provided by the grace of the All Mighty, but it is up to the community to work and to ensure that the project is a success and is substainable,” said Mr Masango

Through constant work and attention, the project can be a guarantee that only fresh products are delivered to the needy who need the nutrition for a healthy development.

The plan is for the project to empower the poor.

Various skills can be learned and employment can be created.
