Man jailed 15 years for rape of 5-year-old

Thabo Abel Mthembu was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on 21 July after he was found guilt of raping a five-year-old girl.

According to the complainant her granddaughter came back home crying on 29 August 2012.

When she asked her what was wrong she did not reply and asked to go to bed.

When the complainant was bathing her the following day, she noticed some discharge between her legs.

She took her to the clinic and the nurse said she did not see anything wrong with the child.

The complainant noticed blood on the victim’s underwear the following day.

She immediately took her to the doctor, who referred her to the hospital.
