VIDEO: Water goes to waste because of stolen tap at taxi rank

"There are people who steal the tap every time we replace it.”

A tap has been leaking uncontrollably for more than four months at the Standerton taxi rank.

According to Mr MJ Ntshangase, chairman of the taxi association,

they have been experiencing this problem for more than a year.

“There are people who steal the tap every time we replace it.

“We have reported the matter to the Lekwa Municipality many times and nothing has been done thus far”, he said.He also said they requested the municipality to put up some lights at the taxi rank because commuters get robbed in the dark and only two were put up, which are not enough.

According to him they asked the municipality to provide toilets because people relieve themselves next to their office and the smell is unbearable.

He recommended that the municipality build a cage

over the tap as a safety measure.

Mr Sipho Mkwanazi, spokesman of the municipality, was not given enough time to coment at the time of going to press, but readers will be updated in our next issue.
