Women beat sex workers

Prostitutes escape after being beaten by Mandela Section women.

eMBALENHLE – Alleged prostitutes were apparently beaten and their shack destroyed by Mandela Section women recently.

According to the source, the prostitutes built their shack on illegally invaded land.

Local woman noticed that many men came and went from this shack and they went to investigate.

When they got to the shack, some of the women inside were naked.

The local women mobilised more women to help them “get rid of this nonsense”.

It is alleged that the local women carried various kitchen utensils, such as pot lids, wooden spoons, mops and brooms.

“We heard a lot of noise and screaming.

“The women were beaten and their shack was destroyed.

“Men watched from a distance, some laughed and others tried to help the prostitutes.

“The prostitutes managed to escape, though they were hurt.”

Ridge Times visited the Mandela Section and held various interviews regarding the matter.

Many of the men condemned the local women’s actions.

“What happened was totally unfair, because these women were supposed to talk to their husbands and boyfriends and tell them not to buy sex, instead of beating the prostitutes.

“I believe the prostitutes came here because the market was good.

“They are not supposed to be deprived of their rights to render their services,” said a man who wished to remain anonymous.

A woman who was still furious about the matter, said Mandela Section is not a place of wickedness.

“We did what we did to protect our marriages and our children.

“We also heard that some of our teenage kids were seen at that house.

“We do not even know if they have age restrictions and these things should not happen in a residential area.”

Capt Mangonseni Nkosi said no case was opened and said the police condemn mob justice.

“The police do not discriminate against people according to their cultural believes and lifestyles and that if it happens that a person commits any offence, he or she must be brought to the police.”
