eMZINONI – Social development and local police hosted the Boys and Men Breaking the Silence event recently.
The aim was to encourage men and boys to speak out about the various forms of abuse that men face.
Pupils from various schools, teachers, nurses, pastors and other stakeholders attended the event.
Boys and men were also informed about circumcision, the importance of HIV testing and of knowing your status.
Const Cynthia Mstweni, police spokesman, said it is time that men and boys break the silence and defeat the stigma around men abuse.
“Boys and men also get abused.
“The only difference is that male victims do not have the courage to talk about it as it is regarded as a embarrassment when a male person is abused.
“The event was a platform to address their issues.”
Various activities, such as poetry, drama and music, were conducted on the day.
