BETHAL – The Community Policing Forum (CPF) Sector 2 members held their monthly meeting on Thursday, 27 November.
Policemen gave presentations on CPF functions and structures, duties and responsibilities of CPF members and patrollers, as well as aspects of the law and regulations of the Police Act.
Other matters that were discussed included crime tendencies, problem areas, communication and the CPF preparation for the festive season.
There were no reported house robberies and break-ins in November in Sector 2.
Mr Werner Herselman, chairman, thanked the police and members for their continued hard work and dedication.
“The completion of phase one of the Hendrina road bridge community clean-up project was a success and the chairman thanked C & F Construction of Bethal for providing the TLB and tipper-truck for the project,” said members.
The effectiveness of visible policing, CPF patrols and the quick distribution of information on suspects and activities were hailed as the determining factors for the current success.
Communication remains a priority for Sector 2 and the lack of proper two-way radios and a repeater still has a negative impact on the effectiveness of patrols and reaction times.
“There is going to be an increase in CPF community and fundraising projects in 2015,” said Mr Herselman.
Members are encouraged to assist in patrolling when they are on leave and are available.
Donations and contributions were also welcomed to assist those members who want to patrol, but who cannot afford to do it regularly.
Anyone can also sponsor a patrol for someone else.
Local businesses and community members are encouraged to get actively involved with community policing and its efforts to ensure a prosperous, safe and crime free environment for us all.
“My wish for the members are that they will be safe and enjoy the festive season,” said Mr Herselman.
