Taxi driver’s case postponed to 19 January

Mr Tsepang Matloung, the taxi driver, who was charged with murder, fraud and reckless driving, appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court again on 19 December.

He faces nine counts of murder after 12 occupants died as a result of the accident, 11 on the scene and one more in the Standerton Hospital three days later.

The accident occurred on the road between Standerton and Perdekop on 6 October last year.

The driver apparently skipped a stop and go construction site and collided with an oncoming truck.

He has applied for legal representation.

The case was postponed to 19 January.
