Stephen wins sudden death play-off

The field was small, but did not lack in quality.

EVANDER – Stephen Morrison of Tuks won the Mpumalanga Golf Union’s U/23 tournament at Walkerpark Golf Club in a sudden death play-off.

The Mpumalanga Golf Union held its annual U/23 tournament at Walker Park Golf Club on Sunday, 18 January and the field of 40 comprised local golfers and players from as far as Nelspruit.

The field was small, but did not lack in quality and after 18 holes four players were tied on 3 under par.

After 36 holes, Ruan Korb (Centurion Academy) and Morrison were tied on 4 under par and a 3 hole play-off was called to determine a winner.

The players were all square after the three holes, so it was sudden death on the 18th hole and both players found the fairway from the tee.

Ruan Korb’s second shot was eight feet from the hole and Stephen’s second shot 30 feet after consultation with his caddy.

Stephen had the line and managed to box the putt for a birdie, but Ruan’s putt just missed, making Stephen the winner.
