No entry to Mahala Park Stadium

The community can not access the newly upgraded Mahala Park stadium.

The community from Mahala Park has been left without the use of a soccer field.

Players stopped using the field after the Lekwa Municipality began with renovations last year.

The municipality put up a fence around the field, installed toilets, erected grand stands and planted grass as well.

“We have to travel to other sections in Sakhile to play soccer,” a player said.

Some of the popular teams in this area do not exist anymore because of the current situation.

The newly upgraded soccer field is not maintained, the grass is long and the gates are locked with security guards on duty.

“There is an oversight committee that inspected the stadium and they will submit a report to the municipality before the community can use the stadium,”Mr Sipho Mkwanazi, spokesman of the Lekwa Municipality, said.
