Residents learn about petitions
Residents speak up about problems in eMzinoni.
eMZINONI – The Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature’s Public Participation and Petitions Committee held a public education campaign on Wednesday, 11 February at the Raymond Mavuso Hall.
It was aimed at assisting and educating residents through the legislature petition process and to educate the public on the proper channels to follow should they have complaints or grievances rather than to resort to violent acts.
Ms Jeaneth Nghondzweni, chairman, said it is Legislature’s role to educate the public and to conduct an oversight over the executive.
“A petition is a formal complaint written by an individual or a group of people to the Speaker of Legislature.
“It is the Legislature’s responsibility to act on behalf of people who have grievances.”
Residents were given a chance to talk about problems in the area, such as concerns about stand allocations, RDP houses and road constructions, among others.
Ms Ngondzweni said she will forward the complaints to the relevant structures.
