Body of infant found in eMba drain

Police are searching for the mother of the infant.

eMBALENHLE – Residents made the gruesome discovery of an infant’s body in an overflowing drain.

According to the police it appeared as though the baby was pushed down to the pipes from where sewage flowed to the drain where the body was found.

Capt Magonseni Nkosi, police spokesman, urged women and girls who are pregnant with unwanted babies, to not kill them, but to take them to the relevant adoption agencies.

“It is shocking to know that someone would give birth to a child and then throw them into drains.

“If you do not want a child, there are legal routes that you can follow besides illegal abortion and abandoning children in sewerage.

“We condemn such practices in our community.”

A case of concealment of birth was opened.

  • The police urged anyone who has information to come forward or to contact the station at 017 685 2363.
