Burglars steal from municipality

Burglars enter library through roof.

EENDRACHT – Burglars entered through the roof of the local library, disconnected the alarm system and stole two desktop computers from the library, as well as a UPS box.

They also went into the licence and registration office and stole six desktop computers.

It was not the first time though that this building had been broken into.

The area is regarded as a hot spot for crime, because a nearby church was also broken into.

W/O Matrose confirmed that a case of housebreaking was opened on Tuesday morning, 3 March.

A neighbour told the Echo and the Ridge Times that on Sunday, 1 March a grey car parked next to the licence and registration building.

“It looked like a Toyota Tazz or a Conquest,” said the man.

The car is said to have parked there at around 3pm on the Sunday and the security guard on duty later talked to the occupants of the car.

They left and returned at around 4pm and again parked next to the licence and registration building.

It was later joined by another car that parked on the other side of the road.

The lights of this car shone on the building.

A third car drove past the building at a very high speed and immediately turned right and stopped.

The security guard, wearing civics, went to the car parked next to the building and spoke to the occupants.

After that, he went to change into his work clothes.

The neighbour does not know what happened thereafter.

“I heard on the Tuesday morning that the licence and registration office was broken into.

“I felt bad because I wanted to contact the police on Sunday, but I do not know their number,” said the neighbour.

Nobody has been arrested yet.
