Club’s preparation not dampened for nationals

Despite the rain, Standerton RC Car Club went on with its pre-organised fun day on 7 March.

Members of the South African Radio Driver’s Association visited the local track to check the club facilities and track standard in preparation for the national event to be held in June.

Among the visitors, were some of the region’s top off-road drivers and SARDA’S chairman.

After a delayed start to the race, the weather played along and allowed drivers to do some valuable timed laps and to evaluate the track.

The feedback was extremely positive and barring a few minor changes to the track, Standerton will be privileged to host South Africa’s top RC driver’s from 10 to 22 June.

For a couple of Standerton Radio Control Car Club members, the racing resumed on Sunday 8 March at Meyerton Raceway.

Mario De Melo and Nick Iacovou attended Round 3 of the Tamiya Cup on-road event held at Meyerton Raceway, which attracted a total of 90 entrants on the day.

After two qualifying rounds and a final race per class, Mario finished a commendable 6th in the Stock Touring Class, 7th in the Mini and 9th in the Formula 1 classes.

Mario qualified and competed in the A-Main finals in all three of his entered classes.

Nick managed a 2nd and 3rd place in the Stock Touring and Mini Classes respectively in the B-Main finals.

Standerton RC Car Club will be resuming its Club Points Competition with Round 2 being held at 3pm on 15 March.
