Thieves steal 21 computers from Kinross school
Police urge community to start neighbourhood watch forums.
KINROSS – Thieves broke into 11 houses, as well as the Sasolia Primary School, in one street in Thistle Grove recently.
They seem to favour flat screen TVs since these were the only items stolen during the housebreakings.
They stole 21 desktop computers from the school on 28 February.
The principal, Mr Mandla Gamede, pleaded with the community, companies and organisations who can donate 19inch flat screen desktop computers to contact the school at 017 687 1283.
This will help, because replacing the computers will take very long.
An increase in the number of housebreakings in Thistle Grove led to the establishment of a neighbourhood watch forum whereby residents can alert one another when housebreakings happen.
Residents also created a WhatsApp group for their neighbourhood forum which makes it easy to assist one another.
One resident said about the spate of housebreakings: “They also came to my house at night and broke a window while I was asleep.
“They must have seen that I only have old furniture and left without taking anything.”
The thieves broke into a house in Andrew Julies Street, but they failed to steal the flat screen TVs because they were mounted to the wall.
One resident lost nearly everything because they stole a TV, furniture and even clothes.
W/O Helmes confirmed that there have been several housebreakings and the hot spot area is from the library to Fisant Street.
No one has been arrested yet.
Problems which residents are facing and are thinking assist in the increase in crime, are uncut grass and street lights that are not working.
Some lights are not high enough and those that were taken out in Fisant Street and Sysie Street were never replaced.
W/O Helmes pleaded with the community to come forward should they have any information which might lead to the arrest of the suspects and further said residents should be vigilant, especially at night.
Residents should also look out for strange objects like a tin of Coca Cola, strange markers near their homes and plastic bags put next to their houses, because these are also used by burglars to mark houses.
He urged residents to begin neighbourhood watch forums.
