Police reservist behind bars for theft

eMBALENHLE – A 36-year-old R/Const appeared in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court for alleged possession of suspected stolen property and defeating the ends of justice on Wednesday, 4 March.
He was arrested after two suspects were apprehended for housebreaking.
The police recovered the items through the help of residents.
It then surfaced that two items were still missing, namely a laptop and a microwave oven.
On further investigation the police discovered that the microwave oven recovered was not the one that was stolen from the complainant.
Two suspects told the investigative officers that a police official had taken the laptop and also swapped his microwave oven with the one of the complainant.
The police followed the lead and went to the reservist constable’s house where they found the items.
He was arrested immediately.
Lt Gen (Adv) Mark Magadlela, provincial commissioner, said: “As much as we acknowledge the work done by reservists, we will also arrest those who are rotten potatoes in our midst.”
