SECUNDA – The police and Crime Intelligence Unit recently arrested two men in connection with two vehicles that were stolen in the CBD on Friday, 27 February during working hours.
One of the vehicles was recovered in Pretoria where it was sold to a private person.
The buyer was also arrested.
The other vehicle was recovered in Evander and was in the possession of one of the men who was an employee of the company from where the vehicles were stolen.
According to W/O Thulani Gamede, spokesman of Secunda Police, the vehicles had false registration numbers and false licence discs.
The police are still investigating the case and the two men remain in custody.
* An armed robbery took place in the parking area of the Secunda Mall on Wednesday, 4 March at 6.45pm.
According to Lt Bettina Zondo, spokesman of the Secunda Police, a man was walking in the parking area when three men approached him from behind with a firearm.
“They stole his cell phone and wallet,” said Lt Zondo.
The victim later got an SMS that R3 800 was withdrawn from his bank account.
No arrests have been made yet and the police are still investigating.
Ms Marijke Smit, general manager of the mall, said: “Secunda Mall Cente Management became aware of this alleged robbery on Thursday, 12 March.
“We will help the police where necessary in their investigation.”
* In another case, two men were arrested for being in possession of dagga on the same day at the taxi rank in the CBD.
The police were patrolling the area and searched people when they found the dagga.
* A case of housebreaking in Piet Slabbert Street was reported on 4 March.
The owner left his house at 6am for work and got a phone call from his housekeeper at 10am that the sliding door was lying on the floor.
He contacted the security company and the police who investigated and found all the electrical appliances in the house were stolen.
