Sheriff removes illegal squatters from Secunda dumping site
Dump is now safer to use.
SECUNDA – The Ridge Times reported on 6 March in the article Rubbish dump is safe, about the local rubbish dump that was cleaned and made squatter free after the police and the Red Ants removed the squatters on Thursday, 12 February.
However, the sheriff, Mr Ockie Els, appointed the Red Ants to help in removing the squatters in terms of a High Court order.
The Govan Mbeki Municipality applied to the High Court for the sheriff to have the illegal squatters evicted.
According to Mr Els, 96 squatters were evicted and 95 structures were removed.
The police were present to prevent any person from interfering with the sheriff in the execution of his duties.
