R4.5million Govan Mbeki municipal project complete
The R4.5-m waste water treatment project has been completed.
EVANDER – The revamping of the Evander Waste Water Treatment Works has been completed.
The project cost more than R4.5-m and was funded by the Department of Water and Sanitation through Accelerated Community Infrastructure Programme.
It began on 30 October last year and was completed on 13 March.
The project covered the following:
• Building maintenance and civil.
• Repairs to the PST.
• Refurbishment of bio-filters.
• Refurbishment of equipment on the aeration basin.
• Electrical and mechanical work on valves, pumps, motors and new electrical panel.
• Refurbishment of the chlorination system and chlorine.
• Cleaning and refurbishing of other units, e.g. humus tanks, chlorine tanks, clarifiers and balancing tanks.
The plant is serving the Evander community and the surrounding mines and is designed to treat 12 ML per day which is being fed by four pump stations.
Mr Henry Masango, head of communication and marketing of the Govan Mbeki Municipality, said the project will assist the plant to improve the effluent compliance according to the Green Drop requirements.
It will also assist in reducing pollution in the environment.
