MEC Shongwe’s child laid to rest
The MEC of the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr Vusi Shongwe’s child was killed after a car knocked her down in Ermelo on 15 April.
The MEC of the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr Vusi Shongwe’s child was laid to rest in Breyten on 19 April.
She was killed after a car knocked her down in Ermelo on 15 April.
The eight-year-old girl, Sethu Thandiswa Shongwe, was trying to cross Pet Street near her home at about 4pm when a car hit her.
She was certified dead on the scene and police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
As road safety ambassador in the province, Mr Shongwe was highly disturbed about the incident.
He has been preaching the road safety gospel since he joined the department in 2011, not imagining that such disaster would directly affect him.
Mr William Mthombothi, HOD of the department, sent condolences on their behalf to the Shongwe family.
Mpumalanga Premier, Mr David Mabuza, and the Minister of Transport, Mr Dipuo Peters, also attended the service.
