Jim van Tonderskool comes fourth in tug of war
Tug of war is a developing sport in Mpumalanga.
BETHAL – The Morgenson Landbou Akademie, Jim van Tonder School and Real Players Academy put Mpumalanga on the map when they excelled in the annual South African Junior Tug of War Championships held recently in Worcester in the Western Cape.
Schools from all provinces competed in the two categories, namely primary schools (barefoot) in the 220kg, 280kg, 320kg, 360kg and 400kg weight divisions and high schools (boots) in the 400kg, 440kg, 480kg, 520kg, 560kg and 600kg weight divisions.
Teams consisted of eight athletes that included just boys, just girls or boys and girls combined with a total weight of less than or equal to the weight of the division in which they took part in.
A total of 87 represented primary schools and 255 teams represented high schools that included 44 teams that consisted of girls only.
Morgenson Landbou Akademie proved that hard work and dedication always pay off and got a silver medal in the 520kg division and a bronze medal in the 480kg plate division.
Jim van Tonder School from Bethal came fourth in the 440kg and 480kg divisions and a sixth in the 520kg division.
The management team of the Mpumalanga Tug of War Association was pleased with the achievements of the schools and athletes and congratulated them.
