Bethal Sector 2 CPF members discuss crime
Crime in the sector recently included three house-breakings in the day.
BETHAL – Sector 2 Community Police Forum (CPF) recently held their monthly meeting at the Dutch Reformed Church in Wes Street.
Mr Dirk Badenhorst is the new acting chairman after the resignation of Mr Werner Herselman.
He said a new committee and chairman will be elected after the finalisation of the new constitution for Sector 2.
Crime in the sector recently included three house-breakings in the day.
No specific problem areas were identified and residents were asked to remain alert and to report suspicious activities on the WhatsApp groups and to the local police.
“It is disconcerting that residents still leave their gates, security doors and windows open at night and when they are not at home. “This may be due to long standing habits and informing people of the dangers of laxity, should be a focus area for the sector,” said Mr Badenhorst.
Feedback on patrols, the distribution of information and membership of the CPF were also discussed.
Members who patrol and respond to emergencies, were reminded of how incidents and crime scenes should be approached without compromising any evidence or the safety of others.
“Care must be taken when distributing information such as photos of suspects.”
Planned activities for the second quarter includes a training session on basic first aid and emergencies.
It will be presented by a qualified instructor and an attendance fee of R50 includes the training and a light meal.
The training takes place on Saturday, 30 May and the venue and time will be made available later.
“Any person is welcome to attend,” he said.
A social braai or potjiekos is also in the pipe line for June when the focus will be on interaction with senior citizens.
Members must make use of these events to get to know one another.
They were once again thanked for their dedication and commitment and local businesses and community members were encouraged to get actively involved with community policing and its efforts to ensure a prosperous, safe and crime free environment for all.
