eMBALENHLE – Science pupils from Osizweni Secondary School had a great experience during their tour to the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA).
SAASTA is a business unit of the National Research Foundation and one of their aims is to build the quantity and quality of mathematics and science outputs at school level.
Ms Xoli Thabethe, science teacher at Osizweni Secondary School, said she was pleased that their pupils were exposed to SAASTA and they also learned about the different science-related careers that they can take.
Pupils said the visit boosted their morale and changed their attitude towards science and mathematics.
“We did science experiments and also learned how to make soft drinks, such as Coca Cola,” said Sipho Mahlangu, a Grade 11 science pupil.
He said he also liked the mirror game, because it plays with a person’s mind.
Most pupils said what stood out for them, was a mountain which gives a clear view of Johannesburg and seeing a telescope.
Sipho Mahlangu who is a member of the Representative Council of Learners, said he wants to become a chemical engineer because he enjoys chemistry.
