Local police visit eMzinoni High School

The eMzinoni High School commended the police and its stakeholders for the Safer School Programme.

eMZINONI – Const Cynthia Mtsweni, police spokesman, called on the pupils of eMzinoni High School to refrain from substance abuse.

She said such practices are destroying the lives of many South Africans, young and old.

Const Mtsweni said this during the Safer School Project that was initiated by the local police in partnership with Safety, Security and Liaison and the Department of Social Development.

This programme is aimed at eradicating crime, substance abuse, peer pressure, bullying, teen pregnancy, gangsterism and other challenges faced by pupils.

“We work with various stakeholders in an attempt to help pupils overcome their daily challenges.

“This programme will run throughout the year and will include sports activities,” said Const Mtsweni.

Mr Sipho Khuzwayo from Safety, Security and Liaison Department, urged pupils to break the silence and to speak about any crime at the school or the community.

He said pupils must know the 10111 emergency number and other emergency numbers and report all kinds of crime to the police.

Ms Mbali Thabethe from Social Services explained to pupils what a probation officer’s job entails.

She said probation officers are social workers who carry out work in the fields of crime prevention, treatment of offenders, care and treatment of victims of crime, and working with families and communities.
