KINROSS – Local residents claimed they have been promised flush toilets and water, but had not received anything yet.
Residents of extension 25 do not have access to tap water in their yards.
More than 10 households share one tap of water that is situated in the street.
“Having access to tap water does not mean we have access to water, as you can see that some taps are no longer working,” said one resident pointing at a tap which is alleged to be closed by the municipality.
Residents said they also do not have flush toilets, but they are charged for water and sewer on their monthly statements.
One resident said he wanted to install a flush toilet for his house, but he could not find the sewer pipes to connect to and he even went to the municipality to get assistance, to no avail.
“It is not that we all are waiting for the government to do things for us.
“Some of us are able to do things ourselves, but there are no sewer pipes in this area,” said the resident.
During the budget consultation meeting, the council mentioned that R10 000 is budgeted for the conversion of VIP toilets in Kinross.
