Burglars target three shops in Leandra

Burglars entered through roof.

Burglars gained entry to Standard Bank through the roof at about 12.15am on Sunday, 12 July.

The alarm system apparently went off and the security reported it to be false.

It was later discovered that there was a break-in and the safe was cut, but the burglars failed to get to the cash.

Grinders and blades were found on the scene and a case of burglary was opened.

* On the same day at about 2.30am, another shop was broken into and three car radios, seven cell phones and three speakers to the value of R5 000 were stolen.

The burglars apparently entered through the roof and a case of burglary was opened.

* An alarm went off at the Spar at about 4.30am on the same day, and the security noticed one man on the roof.

They immediately contacted the manager and the neighbourhood watch.

They apprehended one person who suffered multiple injuries caused by the barbed wire while he was trying to escape.

W/O Khuselwa Matrose confirmed that one person was arrested on the scene and that an ambulance was summoned.

The man was taken to the Evander Hospital where he later died.

An inquest docket was opened.
