Restoring faith in to the community

"Restoritive justice" prisoners appeal to the community for forgiveness and acceptance.

Ermelo – In light of Corrections week, an annual celebration hosted by the Correctional Services, prisoners appealed to the community for forgiveness and acceptance.

Prisoners entertained the crowds on Thursday morning with traditional dance and song.

Remorseful and currently serving their sentences they appealed to the community not to stigmatise and accept them once they’ve served their sentences.

Four prisoners addressed the crowds and apologised for their crimes, they also conveyed the message and encouraged every one not to commit crime.

The head of Ermelo’s Correctional Centre, MR Doretha Shongwe thanked the South African Police Service and Depts of Safety and Tourism for their assistance and securing a safe and successful event.
