EVANDER – Leandra Police Station congratulated Const Winnie Kgomo for successfully investigating the rape case against Vuyisile Petrus Maseko (33), a Lebohang resident, who was sentenced at the Evander Regional Court to 21 years’ imprisonment for rape, contravening a protection order and kidnapping.
Const Kgomo said investigating the case was not easy, because the suspect was on parole and he also had a case of escaping from prison against him.
“That was one of the most difficult cases I had to investigate, because the victim was afraid of him and even the witnesses were afraid to testify against him,” said Const Kgomo.
The victim opened a case of abuse against Maseko previously, but withdrew it because she thought he would change his behaviour.
According to the victim, Maseko’s former girlfriend, he arrived at her house armed with a hammer and threatened to kill her, because of the protection order she had against him.
He forced her to go to his place in Lebohang where he assaulted and raped her.
He also ordered her to sleep at his place where he raped her again.
Maseko was found guilty of rape and was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment, three years for contravening a protection order and three years for kidnapping.
All sentences will run concurrently.
The victim said she was pleased with the sentence.
Const Kgomo works at the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit in Secunda.
