eMBALENHLE – A 24-year-old man has been given a life sentence after he had murdered Ms Nomakhwishi Sibanyoni (45) in her home.
Bennett Khuzwayo was sentenced in the Johannesburg High Court on Wednesday, 16 September.
Khuzwayo was arrested a week after he had broken into Ms Sibanyoni’s house in June last year.
Ms Sibanyoni was returning home from work when she found Khuzwayo inside the house.
Khuzwayo was in the house with the intention to steal.
Realising he was caught, he strangled Ms Sibanyoni to death with an electric cord.
His co-accused, Mr Mfanimpela Mathebula (26), was later acquitted by the court.
Khuzwayo was sentenced to life imprisonment for housebreaking during which a firearm, ammunition and other home appliances were stolen, attempted theft of a vehicle, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and the murder of Ms Sibanyoni.
He committed the various crimes on various days in different places.
The eMbalenhle Police applauded Lt Sakhile Mlotshwa for his dedication and hard work in ensuring the heavy sentence for Khuzwayo.
