ANC supporters disrupt meeting
Kinross ANC supporters promise to disrupt local elections.
KINROSS – ANC supporters gathered outside the Ext 25 municipal building on Sunday, 17 January.
They were singing and chanting and said they decided to attend the ANC scheduled meeting to voice their objections to the selected candidates to stand in for ward councillor positions during municipal elections.
“We warned them last year that we also want to be given a chance to nominate our own person who we believe will serve us better, but they refuse to listen,” said a woman.
The supporters said they submitted the name of Mr Sol Vilakazi for the selections, but it was not included on the list.
One ANC card holder said he also supports Mr Vilakazi because he possesses the qualities that were put down as guidelines by the ANC for selecting candidates for the 2016 local elections.
He said the guidelines require candidates to have skills in local government, municipal experience, community popularity and a track record in political organisations.
Mr Vilakazi complies with all these and served as a councillor before.
Mr Dan Nhlapo, ward councillor, tried to address the angry supporters, but they repeated that they want Mr Vilakazi and no one else.
“How can they choose someone that we do not want to represent us?” they asked.
During the meeting it was mentioned that Mr Sol Vilakazi was selected to stand in for the PR district councillor.
Mr Vilakazi decided to address his supporters and reminded them of the procedures followed in the selection system.
His supporters said during the last elections a councillor was imposed on them and this time they are not going to allow that.
They vowed that should the ANC continue with their own selected people, they will make sure that the elections do not take place in Kinross.
