GS College opens doors for new students

The Gert Sibande College opened its doors from 11 to 15 January for the 2016 registrations.

Potential students came out in their numbers to register at the Standerton campus.

Some visited the career guidance desk at the student support centre to receive career guidance and counselling.

Students who were interested in furthering their studies at the college wrote placement tests.

These tests were from Monday to Friday between 9am and 12pm.

Ms Gugulethu Ngwenya, one of the potential students, said she wanted to study Office Administration.

She passed Grade 11 at Khula-Sakhile Secondary School and then decided to enrol at the college.

According to her, the college provided her with all the necessary information she needed.

The minimum requirement for National Certificate Vocational (NCV) courses is Grade 9.

According to the college, preference is given to students who have passed Grade 10, 11 and 12.

However, the entry requirement for the Nated Programme is Grade 12.

The college applauded the Department of Higher Education and Training and the government for making bursaries available for all qualifying students.

• Electrical Infrastructure

• Engineering & Related Design

Nated Engineering

• Electrical Engineering N1 – N6

• Mechanical Engineering N1 – N6

Business Studies and General Studies

• Marketing Level 2 – Level 4

• Office Administration Level 2 – Level 4

• Hospitality Level 2 – Level 4

Nated Business Studies

• Management Assistance N4 – N6

• Hospitality Services N4

• Marketing N4 – N6

• Computer Practice N4 – N6

• e-skills Computer Practice

According to the college, “Fee free” education has become a reality for students from poor homes.

To further enhance access to education, the college has decided to remove all registration fees.
